Our worship service runs from 10 - 11:30 am.
We have two free parking lots, bike racks and 27/28 buses stop right outside.
Before our worship service, we like chatting in the foyer. Grab a seat on the couch and join the conversation. If you’d prefer, you can prayerfully prepare yourself for worship in the sanctuary. Even if worship has already started, you are very welcome to join in when you arrive.
We sing a mixture of hymns and modern praise songs. Some Sundays we might be accompanied by a guitar, piano and drums, or we might sing a cappella (voice only). This time is set aside for communicating with God from our hearts. Everyone worships in their own unique way. For some, that means standing, singing, clapping or raising their hands, and for others it means quietly reflecting on the words and sitting. You’re welcome to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable and best connects you with God.
Prayer is a very important part of our faith as we express our hearts to God. Those leading public prayers most often use their own words, but occasionally will use a psalm, an ancient prayer, or the Apostle’s Creed.
Bible readings are chosen for their appropriateness to the Church season and relevance to the message to follow. The text will be projected onto the screen during the reading.
Jesus taught His disciples to use Communion to remember Him. We offer a devotion or prayer, and each chair has a pre-packaged Communion cup of grape juice and bread. By faith, these emblems become the life Jesus gave up so that our sins could be forgiven. It is a time for meditation and self-examination. Due to its importance and meaning, we observe this weekly. Anyone may participate, however if you choose not to, that's totally fine too.
During most Sundays from September through June,
the children from 6 months through Gr 5 are invited to a special Sunday school time of stories, songs and activities during the sermon message.
Every weekend, you will hear a relevant, straightforward message that is based on Scripture and is designed to be helpful in your everyday life. We trust that this will help you develop a growing, vibrant relationship with Christ and provide a strong Biblical foundation for your life. If you have any questions about the lesson, please feel free to ask the ministers or elders after the service.
We worship God through giving. This allows us to share God’s love with people in Victoria and around the world. An offering station will be available for you to use following the service. Guests are welcome to participate, but there is no expectation.
If you make out a cheque, please make it payable to “Shelbourne Street Church of Christ”. If you are making a cash donation, you can use the mini envelopes available in the foyer. Please include your name (and contact details if necessary) so we can provide you with a tax receipt at year end. You can also give via e-transfer.
